Education Services
Education Services offers palliative care courses and training to physicians, nurses, pharmacists, counsellors, social workers, volunteers and other health care providers. The courses provide participants with the awareness, skills and knowledge needed to provide excellent symptom management and emotional support in their day-to-day work with patients and families.
Each year, Education Services delivers two, week-long courses for health care professionals: the Palliative Care: Medical Intensive course, and the Psychosocial Care of the Dying and Bereaved course. Both courses meet the accreditation criteria of the College of Family Physicians of Canada and physicians receive 27 hours of Continuing Medical Education credits.
Other education activities include:
• Since 2000, Education Services has been organizing and delivering two, day-long education sessions for physicians and nurses up Island through the Vancouver Island Palliative Network at Campbell River and Parksville.
• Each year since 2005, Education Services has worked with VIHA to deliver five, half-day palliative care education sessions, which are also video-linked to 10-14 sites up Island.
• Education Services handles all education requests from educational institutions, government and community agencies and arranges instruction on a fee for service basis.
• Education Services manages all copyright approval requests from individuals and organizations asking to use our material from our publications and tools such as the Palliative Performance Scale or Bereavement Risk Assessment Tool.
